Assess, diagnose and treat
psychological disorders associated with brain-based conditions
In 1988 I was a passenger in a taxi when it was involved in motor vehicle accident. As I was getting off from the taxi, part of my skirt was closed in by the taxi door. When the taxi was driving off, I fell and my head hit the tarred road and it dragged me on the road until the driver was alerted about what was happening. The impact of the head injury made me to be on sick leave for a week.
In 1994 I was again a passenger in a taxi when we it was involved in a motor vehicle accident, my head hit the taxi roof. I was admitted at H. F. Verwoerd hospital, presently known as Steve Biko Hospital. I was transferred to Muelmed Private Hospital and was on a neck traction for a week.
I had my 3rd motor vehicle accident in 2003. I was knocked down by a motor car and lost consciousnesses. I regained consciousness in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. At Steve Biko was given Panado for pain and was discharged on the same day. I realized at home that I was bleeding on head. In the morning I went to MedForum Hospital, where my head wound was attended to. I was booked sick for a week as In had excruciating headache. I’m presently experiencing Post Concussion Symptoms (Syndromes), namely headaches, fatigue, struggle with concentration, irritability, dizziness, depression and anxiety.
As a result of my experiences as documented above, I have personal interest and knowledge of the conditions that I treat.
Conditions I treat: Depression/Anxiety, Concussion, Trauma/PTSD
Depression and Anxiety
These are common symptoms that young adults, teenagers and adults, experience in their lifetime.
Ask Dr Patricia to help you find what the source is of the two symptoms and also on how to reduce them.
Does depression isolate / distance you from your family, friends, work and from the things you normally enjoy / like doing.
If your anxiety makes / keeps you away from the things you like doing and love.
Are you experiencing any one or more of the following symptom?
- Concentration problems
- Memory problems
- Fatigue/ Tiredness
- Depression, etc.
- Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS)
Trauma / PTSD
Traumatic events come in different ways. To some, trauma can come through:
- being raped,
- gender violence,
- witnessing a family member being murdered,
- being hijacked,
- experiencing negative emotions etc.
Stress always starts with an event. How you respond to the perceived danger is more important.
There is physiology of how you respond to stress, which evokes emotions. And the emotion that you feel is a psychological response.
I offer individual counselling and conduct workshops for occupational/ work stress.
Attention and Concentration
Are you having a short spell of attention or having difficulty with focusing?
Are you struggling with remembering where you put your things (forgetfulness) or either short or long-term memory loss?
Neuroscience Coaching (application of neuroscience into coaching)
It will help you to understand how your brain works and how we form and change our behavior. How do we change the behavior? Through understanding the function of the brain.
Calming performance (such as playing soccer)
Improving memory and concentration
